Advance in stem cell technology

Israeli researches produce large amounts of human embryonic stem cells
for industry and research. They grow them in suspension. A new
technology was developed at Hadassah University Medical Center.

Human Embryonic Stem Cell (hESCs) have been created till nowadays in
small numbers. It is known hESCs have the potential of ripening into
any other type of body cells for repair of organs.
The researches published their work in the science journal Nature
Biotechnology and titled it as “Derivation, propagation and controlled
differentiation of human embryonic stem cells in suspension”.
The article was written by the scientists of the Hadassah’s Human
Embryonic Stem Cell Research Center - Debora Steiner and Prof.
Benjamin Reubinoff.

The Hadassah researchers developed unique conditions that made it
possible for the cells to multiply significantly in suspension without
differentiating into specific cell types. The ripening of hESC
clusters in suspension into neural spheres can be controlled by changing
the conditions of the culture. Now the stem cells can be cultivated in
large vats - with computerized monitoring of growth conditions. Early

Until now it has been difficult to make large amounts of hESC. Cells
have been cultured as colonies consisting of one cell layer attached
to a flat “bed” of chemicals or nutrients. Large number of hESCs
production was limited. It was considered early that propagation of
hESCs in a suspension was impossible, because in such conditions the
cells would stop multiplying and instead undergo uncontrolled ripening
into various types of cells.


Fetal stem cells treatment results depend on: disease's severity, age of the patient, adherence for the medications and regime. Treatment results, presented on this site, are individual for each clinical case.
