New Method of Immune Substituting Therapy with the Use of Fetal Cells in Cases of HIV Infection (AIDS)

Smikodoub Alexander, Pilipchak Elena

Cell Therapy Clinic of National Medical University and Embryonic Tissues Center "EmCell"

Immune substituting therapy by means of transplantation of fetal cell suspensions having high contents of stem cells of hemopoiesis was carried out in 38 HIV infected patients, among which one man was a carrier, 8 patients suffered from AIDS-AC, and 29 from AIDS. Average age of patients was 35 years. Transplantations were carried out by intravenous and subcutaneous administration of fetal cell suspensions. All patients easily agreed to transplantations and endured them satisfactorily.

In general, during two weeks after transplantation an improvement was observed in patients:
  • energy increase in 45% cases;
  • improvement of sleep in 39% cases;
  • decrease of ache and pain in 13% cases;
  • decrease in irritation in 32% cases;
  • increase of work capability in 18% cases;
  • decrease of fatiguability in 37% cases;
  • improvement of spirits in 55% cases.
Considerable and statistically valid improvement of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ indices was observed on the 12th day and remained during 2 months. The CD4+/CD8+ ratio increased during the first week; it however decreased later on. We observed maintenance of the increased level of CD3+ and CD4+ during 3 to 8 and even 18 months.

In 17 (77%) patients suffering from astheno-neurotic syndrome, substantial improvement of general state was observed. In patients suffering from paresis and neuropathy, the scope of movements of injured extremities increased.

In 10 patients, pathology of the respiratory system was observed (bronchitis, pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis). 2 weeks after transplantation, against the background of standard therapy, a decrease of the bronchoobstructive syndrome was observed in these patients. In patients suffering from tuberculosis, general state improved and the body temperature decreased.
