HIV Infection

HIV infection in patient G. was diagnosed in 2000 during regular examination. For a long period, the condition was stable and good. In May, 2003, CD4+ index was noted to decrease down to 300/mm3, due to which fact on June 4, 2003 first transplantation of hematopoietic human embryonic liver cells was carried out, and on August 18, 2003, the second transplantation. Within 2 weeks CD4+ count increased up to 1,200/mm3 and, in spite of some periodic fluctuations, this parameter remains high up to now (900/mm3) (Table).

General condition of the patient is good; he maintains physical ability to work although had to change his job (sea navigator) because of disclosure of his diagnosis.
Within the last three years, he suffered from several catarrhal diseases, though without significant deterioration of general condition. When he was sick, he received regular preparations (biseptol for bronchitis, multivitamins for acute respiratory infections), and did not take azidothymidin.
