Embryonic Stem Cell Therapy in our Cell Therapy Clinic
The work of our clinic is devoted to embryonic stem cell transplantation, the most promising branch of cell therapy.
Embryonic Stem Cell Transplantation is a branch of Transplantology, related to the transplantation, not of organs or tissues, but of embryonic stem cells, progenitors of cell pools, responsible for certain systems and functions of the body: nervous, immune, and muscular systems, hematopoiesis, blood circulation, etc.
There exist many modes of cell administration, but transplantation proper presupposes:
- survival,
- engraftment,
- multiplication,
- specialization under regulating control of the new host, and
- substitution for the lost and damaged cells, restoration of impaired body functions.
Potential of Embryonic Stem Cells
- migration to the site of damage,
- establishment of intercellular links,
- proliferation,
- differentiation,
- responces to various stimuli,
- capability of production of considerable amounts of biologically active substances (e.g. hematopoietic growth factors, interleukins, nerve growth factor, tumor necrosis factor, angiogenic and neurotrophic factors etc.),
- weak immune response (in comparison with mature cells) due to late expression of histocompatibility antigen, which helps to avoid rejection.
At present, used are several kinds of cell suspensions comprising different kinds of stem cells of different embryonic layers.
Cell Therapy combines:
- advantages of Embryonic Stem Cell Transplantation
- modern therapeutic achievements
- simplicity and minimal invasion of the procedure
List of contraindications against cell therapy is rather limited. No negative side effects were observed.
Sterility and safety of embryonic stem cell suspensions are ensured by application of all standard testing methods and safety precautions to insure sterility and safety of Embryonic Stem Cell Suspensions.
We believe that progress in this extremely promising branch of medicine is to be guided in compliance with appropriate ethic and scientific standards, in order to reveal its advantages and prevent its misuse and profanation. We are pleased to state that such concept and approach as we have been using for the last 13 years is legal and eligible for US federal funding (New York Times, National Institute of Health).
