1. Immune substituting therapy with the use of fetal cell suspensions in cases of HIV infection (AIDS).

Smikodoub Alexander, Pilipchak Elena
Cell Therapy Clinic of National Medical University and Embryonic Tissues Center "EmCell"

Immune substituting therapy by means of transplantation of fetal cell suspensions having high contents of stem cells ofhemopoiesis was carried out in 32 H3V infected patients, among which one man was a carrier, two patients (one man and one woman) suffered from AIDS-AC, and 29 patients (7 women and 22 men) suffered from AIDS. Average age of patients was 35 years (20 to 54). Transplantations were carried out by intravenous and subcutaneous administration of fetal cell suspensions. In addition, applications of fetal extracts were performed. All patients easily agreed to transplantations and endured them satisfactorily

In 50 % of patients, syndrome of the early posttransplantation state improvement was observed on the 3rd to 5th day: appetite, sleep, general state and emotional tonus improved, weariness decreased.

Studies of the immune status were performed prior to transplantation, on the 7th, 12th, 30th and 60th days, and subsequently depending on a patient's state. Considerable and statistically valid improvement of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ indices was observed on the 12th day and remained during 2 months. The CD4+/CD8+ ratio increased during the first week; it however decreased later on.

In 20 patients, pathology of the nervous system was observed (astheno-neurotic syndrome, paresis of muscles in lower extremities, peripheral neuropathy). In this group, syndrome of the early posttransplantation state improvement was observed in 68% of patients. Also observed were an increase in the amount of movements of affected extremities and gradual decrease of injuries to peripheral nerves in the course of 2 months.

In 10 patients, pathology of the respiratory system was observed (bronchitis, pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis), accompanied by. increase of the body temperature up to subfebri.le level and higher. 2 weeks after transplantation, against the background of standard therapy, observed in patients suffering from bronchitis and pneumonia was a decrease of the bronchoobstructive syndrome; in patients suffering from tuberculosis, general state improved, and decrease in the body temperature was noted in some patients.
